Dear MCA Parents,

In an effort to support parents in their role as the primary educators of their children, Mount Carmel is once again sponsoring the Parent to Parent program. This program has reached over three million parents since its inception. It is a program BY parents, FOR parents. The program material uses video to deliver practical, down to earth, understandable, and effective ideas. Its goal is to empower ordinary moms and dads to become the most effective prevention tool ever devised... committed, informed, parents. It’s a guide to parenting through the tough adolescent years as teens pass from childhood to adulthood. The videos will both challenge you and empower you to be true to your instincts and be the parent your daughter needs (and yes, secretly wants) you to be.

This semester, Mount Carmel is pleased to offer three sets of opportunities to participate in this worthwhile program. They are:

Eight weekly sessions at Mount Carmel, approximately one hour each:

  1. Wednesday afternoons beginning Sept. 24 at 2:00 PM in Café Campbell (formerly FEMA café)

-OR-

  1. Monday evenings beginning Sept. 29 at 7:00 PM in Café Campbell

-OR-

  1. Four weekly sessions at the Lake Vista home of Connie & John Quave, about 2 hours each on Wednesday mornings beginning Oct. 1 at 8:00 AM

The content of the sessions is summarized at end of this letter.

Once you attend one, you’ll want to make them all. You will walk away from each meeting with at least one bit of information or suggestion that you can take home and use in your day-to-day life with your teenage daughter. Each video can stand alone so you will not be “behind” if you aren’t able to come now and then. Naturally the more you can attend the more you will learn, but please don’t let the inability to attend all the sessions cause you to miss out on the ones in which you are able to participate. And networking with other MCA parents will give you insights into how to handle difficult situations from cell phone and internet use and limitations, to curfew setting, to driving and dating privileges, etc. You will know if, “everyone’s parents let them…” because you will be getting to know what limits parents are setting and why, through the discussion sessions that follow the videos.

Please let us know which series you will attend so we can send reminders and update you on schedule changes if necessary. If you would like to attend the meeting at the Quave’s home, we also need to get directions to you.

We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
