SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY STUDENTS
Junior volunteer program at Touro Hospital during Easter break. Also, information will be forthcoming about volunteering this summer. Students have to be 14 year old by June 7 and/or completed the 8th grade. Volunteers are needed for at least 50 hours and they will attend a half-day orientation Monday, June 6. West Jefferson Medical Center Junior Volunteers needed. Applications may be obtained in the Auxiliary Office at the West Jefferson Medical Center or in the West Jefferson Gift shop. Mandatory Orientation will be held Saturday, May 14, from 9:00AM-1:00PM in the hospital auditorium. All applications must be returned to the volunteer office or the gift shop before March 31, 2011 with a copy of the volunteers birth certificate. Children’s Museum Volunteers needed for our Target Free Sunday program. Admission to the Children’s Museum, 420 Julia Street, N. O., La 70130 is free to all the third Sunday of the month and volunteers, 15 years and older, are needed to help with exhibits, do face painting, and arts and crafts with families visiting the museum. Hours will be 11:30AM – 4:30 PM. The upcoming dates are February 20, March 20, April 17, May 15 and June 19.
New Orleans Museum of Art needs student volunteers to help with exhibits, activities, and special events. They have volunteer positions available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Friday evenings from 5:00-9:00PM. Volunteers must be 16 years or older. A written application and a personal interview will be required. Krewe de Camp, June 13-June 11, 2011 at Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville. This is a nine day commitment for one of our students to buddy with a child with cerebral palsy and help them 24/7 enjoy camp and activities. Deadline is March 15, 2011. Lakeside Hospice volunteer: Hospice centers are medical centers for the terminally ill. The teenage volunteers work under a volunteer coordinator, attend an orientation, receive a Volunteer manual, and receive assistance the hospice staff. Volunteers will make visits, run errands, perform small chores, assist the chaplain, assist office staff, participate with activities and make special projects. Rivertown Repertory Theatre in Kenner is offering volunteer opportunities for students to help assist senior patrons at the theatre. They would help patrons to their seats, help them at pre-performance buffets to carry their plates or get food, and help them to the dinner table. The students would be needed from 6:00-7:15 PM for evening performance and, if they can stay until the end of the play, the seniors can use help to get back to their cars. There are also Sunday matinees. The upcoming play runs are November 19-Dec. 5, 2010 (“Plaid Tidings”), January 21-Feb. 6, 2011 (Steve Martin’s “The Underpants”), March 18-April 3, 2011 (“Secondary Cause of Death”) and May 13 – 29, 2011.
