Key Club International's History

Two men in the Sacramento Kiwanis Club founded Key Club in 1925. The original idea of the club was to provide vocational guidance through community service to high school students. Sacramento High School was the first school to have a Key Club. In 1939, the first plan to combine individual local Key Clubs into federated groups. Then, in 1946, officers from around the country approved the Constitution and Bylaws, launching Key Club International.

Currently, there are clubs located throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean area. Thousands of students are receiving training in leadership and service.

MCA Key Club History

In December of 1980, MCA welcomed Key Club for the first time. Traditionally being an all male club, Mt. Carmel's Key Club was the second all-girls club in Key Club International's Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District (Lamisstenn). Also at the time, Mount Carmel's Key Club was one of the largest clubs in Key Club International having fifty-six members.
Currently, MCA's Key Club continues to grow, having over 120 active members this year. Just as every Key Club chapter is sponsored by a local Kiwanis Club, Mount Carmel Academy's Key Club is sponsored Dawn Busters Kiwanis Club.
