The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion program at Mount Carmel Academy began in 1997 with only 12 Ministers. The girls wanted a program that would help them grow spiritually in their relationship with God.

Initially, few students were selected to the Ministry due to the fact that there was no priest to come serve Mass and there were not many opportunities for the Ministers to distribute Communion at school. The girls not selected approached Sister Camille Anne asking if they could be Come Lord Jesus leaders since they wanted to serve Jesus as well as foster their faith among the younger students. Over the years, the program has grown from a mere 12 Ministers to a large group of approximately 50 Ministers.
